I love Aqua!

Can you tell? I'm sure the aqua colored room, shirt and banner didn't give it away!

I whipped this banner up in a jiffy! I had seen variations of it lots of places, and couldn't wait to make my own. I used fabrics that I've been hoarding for a while (I do that, until I find something special to use them on). The plaid aqua fabric actually came from a pair of Ralph Lauren capris my mom used to own, I couldn't imagine just giving them away, so I took the rotary cutter to them. This was a lot of fun to make, and hopefully I'll be making some more and putting them up on Etsy.

These were made with the intentions of writing Happy Birthday on them...still not sure how I'm going to do that, but it's a thought! Although I've already used them once at a Labor Day party, so it was nice that they didn't say Happy Birthday :)

Welcome, Autumn

Well, Autumn is here and I'm so glad that it is. The leaves are changing colors, the weather is starting to cool, and good fall food is being made.

Here are some pictures of yummy dinner's I've been making. Breakfast for dinner-A Hyder favorite. I made some lemonade, pancakes, bacon, peach sauce, and hashbrowns with peppers and onions! This was the first time I made pancakes all by myself. We have a huge pancake spatula (wedding gift) and it worked so nicely-I felt like a pro!

A close-up of the hashbrowns:
I also cooked up some beef stew one Sunday afternoon. This bad boy took 2 1/2 hours to cook! This was really my first time cooking with beef (give me a break, I was a vegetarian for a LONG time). I thought the beef was going to come out hard as a rock, but it was surprisingly and deliciously tender. I drained some of the extra sauce and put it over the dog's food :)
I also made some yummy garlic bread to accompany this meal.
Mama's recipe for chicken pot pie...Chris really loves this, so I try to make it frequently.

Being a wife is so much fun and I love having someone to cook for! I love cooking for Chris + he loves eating = happy house.

Back to School Night

Ohhh...the things they don't tell you before you become a teacher. My poor honey, this is him on back to school night. He was at the school for over 14 hours and was completely fried when he got home.  After I got off work, I went to the school to offer some moral support.  I'm glad I got to be there for him and watch as he gave his presentation to the parents.  He did such a great job!

Quilted Map

So, Chris and I were in the fabric store (one of my favorite places to go -yes, he agreed to go :) ) and he saw some map fabric that he really liked.  He knew I had the same fabric at home and we started talking about what I could do with it.  Then he asked me if I would make it into a wall hanging for his classroom.  How could I resist? I outlined a lot of the states -mostly the square ones because they were easier. I also added some waves in the ocean and outlined some of the mountains.

I bought the fabric probably two years ago with the intention of making a baby blanket, but after I got it home, I changed my mind.  I'm satisfied with the way it turned out and think it will look great hanging in my honey's classroom.

Sewing Room Facelift

A while ago, I cut a bunch of branches from one of the many lilac bushes in our back yard. I made an arrangement to go over the window, but the window still felt like it was missing something. So, the other day I cut another (much longer) branch off of the bush and spray painted it dark brown, just as I had the others. We had some extra sheers hanging around- thanks to the bathroom makeover- and ta-da now our sewing room has been beautified :)

I had embroidered this little hoop some time ago (idea taken from Soule Mama) and thought it would look cute hanging from the window.  I think it does the trick!

The pictures were taken when the sun was setting, so the light in the room isn't very bright- which made the walls look really dark. The color is most lifelike in the picture with the hanging hoop.

And here's a picture of Sheeba just for fun. She likes to look at herself in the mirror!

Lots of craftiness going on...

Lots of sewing and crafting been going on in this neck of the woods...

Bathroom Window Before

And After....

I really liked the way these turned out... They are a white/creamy color and are bright enough that they still keep the bathroom open-felling, but thick enough that you can't see through them.

The Phantom Plumber

Lots more plumbing adventures have been going on here...a broken toilet, a leaky outside faucet and a phantom plumber to fix them all (we promise the blog isn't going to be all about plumbing problems :) )  The above picture is when Eddie came over to fix our outside faucet. If ya'll know him, all he needs is food and he's happy.

Payment for the services.

Another incident:  Our church was holding a clothing exchange, and this year we volunteered to have the clothing exchange at our house.  Folks in the church donated clothes and any members from the church could select clothes that they wanted.  During the time when this was at our house, our toilet stopped working. Since we were having a lot of people in and out of our house, and we weren't going to be home the whole time we put a sign on the toilet, telling people it was out of order.  When we got home Thursday night, the sign had been modified by the phantom plumber...

So..guess we should say that someone did accidentally use the bathroom in a morning stupor... oops :)
